What information is included in the i-Heritage database?
Please note: The information in the i-heritage database is not current; users should consult the Melbourne Planning Scheme for up-to-date information on heritage properties in the City of Melbourne. A new database is currently in development. If you have further questions please contact the heritage team at heritage@melbourne.vic.gov.au.
The i-Heritage database contains an invaluable collection of heritage information for more than 8000 places across all suburbs in the municipality. It includes information collected from heritage studies commissioned by the City of Melbourne since the early 1980s.
The database provides a wide range of details on individual buildings including:
- architectural style
- heritage status
- notable features
- statements of significance
- historical information
- builder
- photograph of the current building.
Not all properties in the database are heritage-protected.
To check if a particular property is subject to heritage protection, refer to the heritage overlay within the Melbourne Planning Scheme and the
Victorian Heritage Register.
Building categories can be found in documents incorporated in the Melbourne Planning Scheme.
