The facility is a demonstration project and is increasing recycling and reducing the environmental and amenity impacts of waste collection and disposal in this popular and busy location in the city.
The recycling facility, located in Ross House, includes a food waste digester, a cardboard baler and co-mingled recycling bins. Recycling and food waste is collected daily from custom-designed recycling hubs in Degraves Place and Centre Place.
The project was initially established as a trial project with funding from the Victorian Government’s Metropolitan Local Government Waste and Resource Recovery Fund (Metro Fund) and the recycling hubs were supported by Sustainability Victoria.
