Lord Mayor Sally Capp made her first international trip in May 2019 to showcase Melbourne’s strong startup and innovation sectors in Indonesia and China.

The Lord Mayor is advocating Melbourne’s key strengths across innovation, startups and smart cities to both countries, showcasing our world-leading capabilities in biotech, livability, design and innovation.

Trips like these help us build strong relationships with other global cities and position Melbourne as a prosperous, innovative and sustainable city.

                    Trip highlights include:

                    • The inaugural NEXUS Summit hosted by City of Melbourne and the City of Nanjing, where 15 Victorian startups will refine their solutions to suit the Chinese market and participate in business matching and investor meetings with Chinese companies and Venture Capitalists.
                    • Presenting Melbourne’s smart city initiatives at the World Intelligence Congress, showcasing our leadership to other city mayors from around the world.
                    • Collaborating with Bandung on the Open Innovation Challenge, tapping into the creativity and expertise of both cities to solve common city challenges.

This opportunity strengthens our city’s global connections and promote our world class reputation in startups and innovation.
